There are a lot of reasons why you might schedule to deliver your baby by cesarean. All reasons are valid.

Whether you plan a belly birth or a pelvic/vaginal one, you’re still growing a human for 39ish weeks and, typically, pregnancy brings up lots of questions.

What should you expect during the procedure? What is recovery like? How will breast/chest and/or bottle feeding work? How should you care for yourself after you go home?

Let us talk through some of those with you, and help you feel prepared and safe bringing your baby into the world and into your arms.

During our prenatal sessions we can discuss cesarean education, hospital prep, personalized community resources, and postpartum planning.

On the BIG DAY we can meet you at home to ensure your bag is packed, do some relaxation breathing to calm your nerves, and then follow you to the hospital to stay with you until the procedure begins and throughout the entire day.

After your baby is born we’ll be right beside you in recovery to help you connect with your baby, get the “golden hour” initiated, offer a helping hand, and ensure you’re fed and comfortable.

Daytime postpartum sessions are to support you while your body and heart heal. These hours might involve newborn care and education, help with pumping and feeding, support to get you fed, bathed, and rested, and whatever else can help your recovery go as smoothly as possible during all the changes you’ll be experiencing. Some of your postpartum hours will likely take place in the hospital, since you will be there for a few extra days and need a little extra support, and the rest will happen at home.

We can also happily be with you when you are discharged from the hospital and go home, helping you get all your people, your baby, your belongings, to your car and into your home, where we can help you get settled in on your first day home together as a family.

You might be asking yourself, ‘but why hire a doula if I’m not going into labor’? Oh we have some reasons.

  • “From the first time I heard what a doula was, I immediately thought what a wonderful idea! But having a lot of support of family and friends, it wasn’t a service I thought I would personally benefit from. My first pregnancy and delivery with no doula support had a lot of rough patches I was determined to avoid with my second. While family and friends were supportive they didn’t have the knowledge or expertise to help me through my difficulties. So I enlisted the wonderful help of Samantha. She was there for me for whatever I needed, whether it was practical delivery advice or or just loving understanding of my fears. Her passion for mothers and babies and the relationship between shines though her words and actions. One benefit of a doula I really enjoyed was having someone take those little questions to or bounce off ideas with. Many times during pregnancy you have little nagging thoughts that seem too trivial to call the doctors office for. A doula is the perfect person to help flush those thoughts and questions through to determine what’s ‘normal pregnancy stuff’ and when to seek medical advice/help. During my delivery she was able to help me be so calm and really looked out for my needs and well being. Samantha helped coach me though breathing and relaxation exercises, offered positions to help with discomfort, and was always encouraging.”

  • “I seriously could not have done it without Bethany’s help… Honestly, this was the best labor and delivery as far as making INFORMED choices, rather than just doing what I was told. In my heart, I am so glad about how it turned out given the circumstances. You and [my husband] were amazing for me... It was so beautiful.”

    — J.J., Portland, OR

(third time birther, first time with a doula)

  • “This review has taken me 3 months to write because how does one put pure love, joy, and elation into words? Samantha was our doula for our daughter, a homebirth. We had assumed that Samantha would be doing lots of physical support and my husband doing more mental support. My labor progressed so quickly that by the time we had called Sam for her to come, it was almost too late. But, she made it!! For me, having Sam there wasn’t only about support, it was about comfort. She made me feel so warm, safe and comfortable. She knew what words to say and in just the right tone. She cheered me on as I pushed & celebrated as I achieved my dream birth. Samantha never once made me feel like a burden or that I was annoying her with text after text of complaints through pregnancy. I always felt heard & validated, and when I needed it, she called me out when I was being my own worst enemy. After pregnancy & labor, she maintained a beautiful relationship with me and my daughter. She brought us dinner, she continued to check in on my mental & physical state. She took “above & beyond” to a whole new level. I truly cannot put into words the amount of love and support she showered me with (and she literally showered me after my daughters birth). The only mistake you will make through your labor process is if you don’t hire Samantha as your doula. She is the cheerleader, supporter, friend, and confidant every mama deserves in labor.”

  • “I had a c-section after a very long and traumatic labor process with my first child. When I got pregnant with my second, it was an automatic certain thought that I was going to do everything in my power to have a successful VBAC. I read everything I could on how to do what I could to help that happen. Getting a doula was recommended several times. I talked to my husband, who was a little hesitant about this, not wanting to feel overpowered as a partner, and not really understanding what a doula was at all. I reached out on a moms Facebook group asking for recommendations on people that were starting out as doulas, hoping to be able to afford one. Through this, Samantha reached out to me and we got together to see if we would be a good fit. Talking to Samantha, I feel like I found my soul sister. Our experiences in childbirth were so similar and I knew I absolutely HAD to have this lady as my doula. Samantha was there for me throughout my pregnancy, for all of the questions and concerns I had. She was my friend and my confidant, especially as the pandemic hit and I became frightened about what this would all mean for my VBAC. Samantha offered to be there for me up to the very last second that she could (doulas were not allowed in the hospital), even laboring in the parking lot with me if she had to. When the day came, Samantha came right over to my home and labored for hours with me, helping me get through intense back pain. When it was time to leave for the hospital, she was there on the phone for me as my support. I got my VBAC and I absolutely believe I would not have been the strong mother I was without her help, without her support. My husband is 100% pro doula now, after experiencing Samantha. I recommend Samantha up and down and all over the place to everyone I possibly can. I love her so much and owe her the world!”

  • “I was preparing for a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean). I had a lot of anxiety and fears but having Bethany there for us really helped lift a lot of those feelings. She comforted, helped, and coached us through it all. I believe with her, she helped me succeed in accomplishing my dream of having a VBAC.”
